Flo, the perky Progressive Insurance store cashier, has now made over 100 commercials in seven years for the company.
During that time her popularity has risen to the point where, on Amazon, you can actually buy Progressive Flo adult costumes for parties and Halloween. The costume is complete with wig, apron, nametag and insurance box, of course.
Progressive offers insurance for commercial autos and trucks. It’s the fourth largest auto insurer in the country and a leader in commercial auto insurance.
Flo is actually Stephanie Courtney from New York. She moved to Los Angeles, where she roomed with her sister joined the improvisation sketch comedy group The Groundlings. In 2004 she became a member of its 30-person main company.
During her early time in Los Angeles she worked odd jobs including catering, to help support herself.
Courtney broke into TV commercials with a Super Bowl Bud Light ad. She has also appeared in commercials for Skittles, Glade and Wienerschnitzel.
She has even appeared opposite GEICO’s spokesman in three episodes of the short-lived sitcom, Caveman, before signing on with Progressive.

The character Flo debuted in 2008 through television commercials and has moved on to radio and print advertisements and web banners.
In October 2009, the Boston Herald referred to Flo as "the commercial break's new sweetheart" and said Courtney was "attaining TV ad icon status" as evidenced by over 5 millions on here Facebook page.
Courtney quipped that GEICO gecko "puts out more sexual vibes than Flo does."
